OZ Unit B Fanfiction Archive General Information Help/FAQ

This is the Help/FAQ page for general information about the OZ Unit B Fanfiction Archive. If you're looking for assistance with use of the Posting Interface, or have technical questions about preparation of HTML or text files for best archiving results, please consult the Uploading Information Help Page.

What is this archive?
The OZ UnitB Fanfiction Archive is a general-issue archive for fanfiction about the HBO television series OZ. This archive accepts any and all OZ fanfiction about any and all OZ characters. Crossover fanfiction between OZ and other shows/fictional media fandom entities is also accepted. This archive accepts slash, het, and gen stories rated through NC-17. No RPS. Warning provisions are available but optional. See Ratings/Warnings Policy for more information.

Please note: This archive is not "competing" with any other archive or group. We believe that when it comes to fanfiction archives, redundancy can only be a good thing. Stuff happens. Servers blow up. Archives disappear. People move on to other things. We're here to provide a service to OZ fans, period.

What happened to the old Unit B archive that used to be here?
It's still here -- all the stories that have been housed at UnitB in the past have been rolled into the new, redesigned and expanded archive, and tagged with new searchable data.

The main difference between the new OZ Unit B Fanfiction Archive and the old site that was here, is that this redesigned and expanded archive is no longer exclusively for fiction posted to the old (now defunct) Unit-B mailing list. This archive is now open to all OZ fanfiction. You may use the new search functionality to sort out and narrow down the types of stories you wish to see -- by title, author, rating, characters, etc.

Who may post to the archive?
Any OZ fanfiction author or person with archiving permission from an OZ fanfiction author may post to this archive. You do not need to be a member of any mailing list or group to upload stories to this archive. It doesn't matter if your work is already archived elsewhere (unless you are bound by some prior exclusivity agreement with another entity. In which case, please clarify or iron out those issues before you post here -- the archivist really doesn't want to get in the middle of any turf wars. *g*)

How does the archive work?
This is a do-it-yourself archive. Authors use the Posting Interface to upload their own plain text (.txt) files. The Posting Interface will automatically convert text files to HTML and archive stories, and also tag them with any optional information the author chooses to provide on the upload form for searching purposes. Please see the Uploading Information Help page for technical issues and help.

Will the archivist routinely upload stories posted to X mailing list or community?
NO. This is an author-driven archive. If you want your work archived here, you upload it yourself, or find an obliging friend to help you. The archivist is happy to provide help, answer questions, and fix problems, but she will NOT routinely upload stories for people. This archive is designed to be as simple to use as posting a story to a mailing list, blog, or LiveJournal. If you can get a story up on the Internet at all, you should be able to get your story onto the archive. Please see the Uploading Information Help page for technical issues and help.

What stories may be archived at the OZ UnitB Fanfiction Archive?
This archive accepts any and all OZ fanfiction about any and all OZ characters. This archive accepts slash, het, and gen stories, drabbles, filk, etc. rated through NC-17. Crossovers between OZ and other shows/fictional media fandom entities are also accepted. WiPs (Works in Progress) are accepted, but it is up to the author to properly indicate parts and sections. Warning provisions are available but optional. See Ratings/Warnings Policy for more information.

What stories may NOT be archived here?

  • No RPS/RPF (real person slash / real person fiction -- stories featuring actors, etc.). Inappropriate stories will be removed from the archive.
  • No archiving the work of others without permission. If you are an author and you think your work has been improperly archived, please e-mail the archivist for removal.
  • Likewise, plagiarism will not be tolerated. If you suspect a story posted here, please e-mail the archivist.

Ratings/Warnings Policy
OZ is a drama for mature audiences set inside a maximum-security prison. Unlike perhaps some other fandoms, strong subject matter is common in OZ fanfiction. Content warning tags are available, but not mandatory for archiving, and are included at author discretion. Authors are asked to at least tag their stories with the basic G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17 ratings to give the reader some indication of the general intensity level of story content. But... in the end, it's 'read at your own risk'.

Help! What do I do? I've made major revisions/changes to a story since I uploaded it.
OR, I tried, I really did! But my story came out funky or messed up on the archive.
OR, I tagged my story information wildly incorrectly on the Posting Interface form.

No biggie. E-mail the archivist with the exact title and author name the story was posted under. DO NOT try to overwrite an already archived file. The archivist will delete the old file, then you can upload the new version. Please see the Uploading Information Help page for technical issues and help on both using the Posting Interface, and tips for formatting your files properly for good archiving results.

Some aspect of the site seems screwed up (Posting Interface, Search functionality, stories won't load, etc.) Who do I tell?
E-mail the archivist and describe the problem in as much detail as possible. Thanks!

I have a question not answered in this FAQ or the Uploading Information Help
Gee, think the answer is gonna be: E-mail the archivist? Feel free. I have it on good authority that she's very nice. *g*
